Watching Waves and Making Memories.

On Tuesday, my mom and I drove out to Grand Haven to see the massive waves crashing on shore.  The wind gusts were 40-50 mph and everyone was talking about how big the waves were at Grand Haven, so naturally, my Mom wanted to go check it out.

Coincidentally, I didn't have anything going on that night.  We made the hour drive to the lakeshore and had a lot of fun watching the waves with a couple hundred other people.  Everyone else was in wind jackets and pants with hoods up... my mom and I just so happened to be in dresses.  We were cold, but we were by far the best dressed on the beach, or so the DNR worker said, anyway.

I also realized that, generally speaking, it's a good idea to go where ever photographers congregate.  There were a lot of them on the beach, with huge cameras and tripods and solid resolves to catch a beautiful picture.  So I decided, "Go where the photographers are" is a pretty good mini motto.  Because photographers are attracted to places where there is something exciting, important, memorable, or beautiful happening.

When we first got there, it was cloudy and overcast.  Oh yeah and windy. Verrrry windy.

A curtsy for the camera.  My Mom and I were the only ones taking pictures of ourselves.  I felt rather silly about that, but eh, who really cares about waves?  It was the memory with my Mom we that was important to capture.

Suddenly, we realized we were in for a real treat.  The sun started to descend beneath the gray ceiling...

It was absolutely stunning.

and we both agreed that in that moment, we felt very much alive.
