Today I took some time to reflect on 2016 and was genuinely surprised by how amazing 2016 was for our family. In all ways we are healthier, happier, and better off than we ever have been and that feels amazing to say. I know it won't be that way forever, so I'm going to relish in it while I can! So, here is what our 2016 looked like :)
January
Josh and I went on a Caribbean Cruise!
February
We got a king size bed but that is about it haha. I'm not posting a picture of my bedroom on here though!
March
We met Josh's family in Ohio for a weekend at a waterpark and ended up having the most fun with these mall toys :-D
Piper had her first ballet recital
April
I got a spray tan and it didn't go well lol
I watched my mom perform in a play! Her first performance since my younger brother was born. I was so proud of her.
Our sweet friends Kyle and Jessica had just the most beautiful wedding. We were so blessed to attend!
May
We celebrated my 4th Mother's Day in Holland
and we took a combined family vacation to Disney!
Josh and I spent a day at Hogwarts
June
I surprised Josh with tickets to go see Team USA play in the Copa America tournament in Chicago. It officially converted me to a soccer fan and was absolutely one of my favorite memories ever. I have one specific moment that I play over and over in my mind. One of the most joyful moments I've ever shared with Josh.

We re-decorated our 4th bedroom. It was a real highlight.

Our dear friends Sima and Kamran came to visit us from Azerbaijan :)

Josh and Piper spent a few days in Wisconsin at the Oshkosh Air Show.
We went to see Real Madrid and Chelsea play at U of M with David and Kate
We spent the month at local concerts and splash pads and parks
and Ruby and Nora turned 2!
August
We spent as much time as we could enjoying the summer sun...

We visited our family in PA and made homemade pizzas

We took a day trip to St. Joe, Michigan. We rode the train out and had the best day just exploring the town like tourists. Ruby was so nervous to be on this carousel but I was so proud of her for overcoming her fear and enjoying the ride in the end :)

September
We took an impromptu camping trip to Traverse City with my non-camping family.

It was hilarious and awesome.
We witnessed the wedding of our dear friend Kemp! I cried. So so so happy for him and his new wife!

I realized that maybe the girls would enjoy little bikes and it was an idea that changed the remaining beautiful months of our year. We rode for hours and hours every week. They loved it!

and Piper started preschool!

October
Josh and I decided to go to Ireland on a whim. We bought the tickets 12 days before our departure and relied on a steady stream of amazing help with the girls. It was the best. I think about it every day.

We came home and dove into the regular Fall activities that we cherish so much :)

We celebrated Thanksgiving in California with my family!

December
We discovered the most amazing, simple bread recipe. It has changed our family.

We had a blast making new memories and starting traditions with the girls. In this picture we drove around looking at Christmas lights, getting cups of whipped cream at the local coffee shop for a special treat before hand. I cherish this picture and love their little pose!

Grammy and Pappy drove all the way here to spend Christmas with us.

and we spent New Year's Eve with our girls and with our friends David and Kate again. Josh took the lead and bought us sparkly hats and masks and noise makers, we stopped at 3 different restaurants for a "progressive dinner". We stopped at a little party our friends were having and we were home in our pjs with the girls asleep by 9:30. It was the best! The girls greeted everyone with "happy new year!" and I will miss being the lucky parents of three adorable tiny girls my whole life. I just know it.

Anyway we had an awesome year. I'm so grateful. My heart is nervous and full of hopeful expectations for the new year.
